Constructing the trailer

How "Astrotrailer" looks like today :-)

OFFICIAL PARTNER OF SIDEWALKASTRONOMERS

ASTROTRAILER
A project to foster understanding among nations, through the uniting enthusiasm for the beauty of our universe, over finished national, political and religious borders away.

ASTROTRAILER
A project  international supported (non material) by John Dobson (the icone and idol for many amateur astronomers around the globe) and the Sidewalkastronomers in San Francisco as well as by Mike Simmons (president of AWB) and the organisation Astronomers Without Borders.

ASTROTRAILER
The further development of the "Sidewalkastronomy-Philosophy"

ASTROTRAILER
A step forward to the realization of John Dobson's message: " Have telescopes, will travel ! "
His credo: "If each human being owning a telescope, would offer a look to other people through his telescope, it could succeed that each human being on this world could catch a some deeper glimpse to our universe into the miracle world of stars, at least once. " A sight to the infinite wideness of the universe, a sight to there from from where we are. - We all are children of the stars!

& ASTROTRAILER will travel ;-)

ASTROTRAILER
A mobile small observatory equipped with lightintense optics, connected, with most modern CCD - & video-technology  to screen computer-operated live-pictures to big LCD-Screens as well using efficient video projectors to screen live-videostreams to big video-walls.
Past are the times when the observers had to queue in line for a gaze through the okular.
The gaze to the stars turns into a simultaneous community-experience. The present-day technology makes it possible. Efficient video-cameras transmit  pictures of starclusters, nebulas and galaxies, at which can be looked by many people at the same time.

ASTROTRAILER
By the help of modern technology the dream of John Dobson gets a step closer again!
ASTROTRAILER = SIDEWALKASTRONOMY V2.0

SIDEWALKASTRONOMY V2.0
Knowledge transfer as RoadShow & Infotainment - to faszinate people - to bring people to the astonishment - to make a gaze possible away from the everyday experiences, to lead back people there, where everything began!

ASTROTRAILER & SIDEWALKASTRONOMY V2.0 a possible way? An utopia? A fantasy?

But my sure decision is to put ASTROTRAILER into action!

The enthusiasm, consent and support of other astronomy enthiusiasts around our globe motivates me to work on at this project with the clear goal to travel with my ASTROTRAILER, to spread the ideas and the message of Astronomers Without Borders and to put this practically into action. The positive experiences of my last trip with my "1. AWB-Car" under the motto: "From Orient to Occident - ONE PEOPLE, ONE SKY" will flow in fully into this project. Above all the experiences with "Astronomy on the fly" (sidewalkastronomy along the road) I would like to develop with ASTROTRAILER. Following is a downloadlink to a German written report, published at the biggest German Astromagazine "Sterne und Weltraum"
http://www.astronomie-heute.de/artikel/1060387 .

ASTROTRAILER - THE LOGICAL CONTINUATION OF AN IDEA
The experience, as one is picked up by the people, if one doesn't come into a host country as traveler with empty hands, to bring children and adults to astonishment, to mediate knowledge, to entertain people meaningfully, like a driving showman or traveling-cinema-operator, has inspired me to go one step further on my future trips.
The goal is to earn no money, but assuming it gratefully, if somebody wants to make available to give me a roof over the head or a meal, because  the idea and the performance pleased him.

ASTROTRAILER - A DREAM? A VISION?
NO - I began already with the realization, although I don't have any money for this project :-(
I found already a motorcycle-trailer as basis for this vehicle, a company, that prepares corresponding special-parts for me - for the roofing and "special-folding-dome" - and in spring, I will get started with the work, using my old electric-welding-appliance to advance the construction. I also organized some used solar panels and accumulators for an as self-sufficient as possible operating..........for me it's a charming idea to run the equipment using the energy of a star - the biggest one we have in our range - THE SUN :-)
I have set up this project modular, so improvements of the equipment are always possible.
In the initial equipment some old parts from my old astro-equipment will be used for the first operating of ASTROTRAILER..

Further I have started a building-stone-campaigne and I try to convince  people with this idea during my lectures and presentations and in personal conversations and I hope people support my project. Non-material, financial, practically with performance, with payment in kind, with technical support & Equipment..... EVERYTHING IS WELCOME!

Everybody who wants to support my project in any way, please contact me: on_tour@gmx.at

HERE is a first list of my supporters.

MY VERSION - Sidewalk Astronomy V2.0 a modern completion to the classical way !

Following US-ASTRONOMY-ENTHUSIASTS are already doing something similar I want to do with my equipment:

VIDEO-ASTRONOMY - ROADSHOWS & LIVE PUBLIC ELECTRONIC ASSISTED OBSERVING *)
*)using highly sensitive cameras (for example a Mallingcam) designed
to capture images of deep sky objects in almost actually times conditions.

Even John Dobson was  already a visitor at  these video-freaks of  "Southern California  Desert Video Astronomers"
and he became a wittness of this new method, enabling astronomic observation to a bigger public at the same time.

"Sidewalk Astronomy V2.0"  or  "Sidewalk Astronomy Classic" ?

No question !  I always remain a "Dobsonaut" ;-)

It doesn't matter if we use directly our eyes or a camera  !

It doesn't matter if we are at dark or at lightpolluted places !

We always have to choose what's the best for the given conditions and situations.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WE DO IT AND....

.....WE ARE ENTERTAINING "HER MAJESTY THE PUBLIC" .....

...... AND WE AND THE PEOPLE LIKE IT !!!

Nazar Sallam is the National AWB-Coordinator for the United Arab Emirates. He is a very dedidcated amateur astronomer with high public outreach. He is an big idol for my little Astrotrailer-project. He is very experienced using mobile observatories for astronomical public work and I am already in contact with him, concerning this. For the future I am making plans for a trip with my Astrotrailer to countries of  Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and someday I hope to meet him face to face.

Following some videolinks showing this astronomical outreach worker !
